LIFE IS SHORT (PART 2)***

by Author- Alisha Prien

This week I lost someone dear to me…

One of my son’s carers passed away this Tuesday from stage 4 breast cancer. Her name was Doreen, and she was one of the sweetest and strongest ladies I have ever met. I was very privileged to have had her be a small part of our life. Though she was only here for a short time she still managed to leave a big impact.

Fun fact- Doreen was Spencer’s first carer, before she was diagnosed.

Doreen chose not to go through with chemotherapy because she felt there was no point in being sick the whole time and putting her family through that kind of stress. She was always so kind and considerate, always putting others before herself. She chose to endure her cancer, and as she would say “ God has decided it is my time”. Doreen left me with some words which I will never forget. She told me to chose love, let go of things that do not serve (hate, anger, fear). She believed that living a bitter life of anger and hate towards the world and others, even those who have caused hurt and pain to us, would turn to bad karma.

Doreen’s presence was always comforting and warm, her laughter was present till the end. She even chose to work with Spencer till her body could no longer work. Such persistence showed me that the things I often complain about meant little in comparison. Seeing such resilience, strength and love even at a time of death makes you see life in a new light.

Life is short… We never know how long we have or how long those closest to us have before their time is up. Doreen showed me the importance of lapping up every moment you get with loved ones. She taught me to let go, forgive and move on from those who caused hurt. Doreen taught me to appreciate all the small things, be humble and grateful for the life we have.

I will never forget you Doreen, you will always have a place in mine and my son’s heart. Your smiles shine through Spencer every time he laughs. Every time he laughs and stares into a space in our home, I imagine you are there watching over Spencer as a guardian Angel.

Hug your families tonight, make that phone call to that loved one, say sorry, forgive and move on.

Life is short, no…

Life is precious, so choose to value it… <3
